Impact of Power Assisted Exercise for those Living with COPD

18th Nov, 2020

According to research published by the British Lung Foundation there are an estimated 1.2million people living with diagnosed COPD in the UK, making this the second most common lung disease in the UK, after asthma. 115,000 people are diagnosed with COPD each year – equivalent to a new diagnosis every 5 minutes.

To mark ‘International COPD Day’ on 18th November, Shapemaster conducted research to understand the impact of power assisted exercise for those living with COPD. Of those who took part in the research (55% falling within the 65-74 age bracket), 68% said they generally felt better whilst 32% indicated they could walk further.

“I suffer from C.O.P.D and have found that my breathing has much improved since using the equipment, other people have also noticed that I am breathing easier.”

Furthermore the results indicated:

  • 64% can move better
  • 36% can move about the house much more freely
  • 50% improved mobility
  • 23% can move parts of their body that they couldn’t move before
  • 27% improvement in social life
